Tourist information - Places of Interest - Maria Magdalena Tower
This 13th-century Franciscan church was in medieval times the church where Hungarian speakers worshipped.
Under Turkish rule this was the only church allowed to remain in Christian use, all others being converted into mosques. The chancel was used by Catholics while the nave was Protestant. In the end, it too was converted into a mosque. Both chancel and nave were destroyed in World War II and have not been rebuilt except for one stone window, as a memento.
Address: On the corner of Országház utca and Kapisztrán tér
