FAQ
Currency of Hungary
Coins
Currently in use: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 forint.
The 1 and 2 forint coins will be withdrawn in March 1, 2008. This was announced by the Hungarian National Bank in September 2007, because the cost of minting them is too large: approximately 4 times their face value. When paying with cash, the total will have to be rounded to 5 forints.
Banknotes
Currently in use: 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10 000, 20 000 forint
If I arrive by plane, how can I get to the apartments?
In this case you have a number of possibilities.
By taxi
The most comfortable choice. Zóna Taxi is the official taxi company of Budapest Airport. They charge fixed prices which vary according to where in the city you need to go. Zóna Taxi charges 4200 HUF (approx. 19 EUR) to get to the apartments. To get to the airport from the apartments, Zóna charges 3500 HUF (approx. 16 EUR). To order a Zóna taxi to the airport, call +36 1 365 55 55.
Airport Minibus
Run by Ferihegy Airport, the Minibus is a less expensive option. However, the journey to the apartments will take longer than by taxi because the Minibus first takes time to gather together enough passengers who are going to the same general area of the city, and then takes everyone directly to their places of accommodation. For destinations in Budapest, a single ticket will cost you 2300 HUF (approx. 9 EUR), a return (round-trip) ticket 3900 HUF (approx. 16 EUR). You must book the return shuttle at least 24 hours in advance. To book a return trip on the Minibus, call +36 1 296 85 55.
Public Transport
We do not recommend this option. While in general Budapest's public transport system is inexpensive, reliable and safe, and while it would be the cheapest means of transport from the airport, the route from the airport is very complicated and involves multiple transfers. Instead, use public transport in the heart of the city where it's at its most efficient.
What is the emergency services telephone number in Budapest? (ambulance, police and fire services)
To call an ambulance, dial 104; to call the police, dial 107; to call the fire brigade, dial 105. The general emergency number is 112. These numbers can be called from your mobile phone in Hungary.
